PUBG could have super-sized map surprises waiting for you for 2021
In Season 10 for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, we’ll start to see the smallest map up to now put into the game’s lineup. A map that’s purely urban, Haven is only going to have a standard footprint of 1km x 1km, and it’s hard to overstate how tiny then in comparison to PUBG‘s largest maps like Erangel. It has definitely been per year of small maps for PUBG, because the start of the year saw the addition of the 2km x 2km Karakin aswell.
Is this a trend that’s likely to continue into 2021? It doesn’t seem likely, as in a fresh interview with Polygon, PUBG creative director Dave Curd indicated that fans can likely expect new maps to be big again once we’re in to the new year. While he didn’t give specifics, Curd did indicate that something how big is Erangel and Miramar as well as larger could possibly be on deck for 2021.
“I believe that Erangel/Miramar 8-by-8, maybe even larger, that appears to really function as sweet spot,” Curd said. “So that’s a thing that we’re really getting excited about bringing back again to players next year.” Whoever has played PUBG at any point since launch can let you know that Erangel – the game’s first and easily most familiar map – is completely sprawling, so PUBG Corp launching a map that’s a great deal larger could possibly be quite the exciting thing indeed.
For the present time, though, it appears that 2020’s maps have attemptedto make games more fast-paced by packing players right into a smaller area. The patch notes for update 10.1, that is now go on the PUBG test server, indicate that Haven tosses a fresh enemy faction in to the mix, giving players a lot more to be worried about than their human opponents. The patch notes also say that Haven is really a seasonal map which will only be playable during Season 10, if you want to take a look, you’ll have to get for some playtime in once Season 10 goes live.
We’ll see what goes on from here, but if you’re a longtime PUBG player wondering where all of the big maps are, it appears like they’re coming next year. We’ll inform you when PUBG Corp shares more, but also for now, browse the patch notes linked above for more on the game’s Season 10 update.
